Being mobile simply means being capable of moving or of being moved readily from place to place. But when it
comes to mobile disco, being mobile wasn't easy.
Professional audio, lightings and video equipments are usually big, bulky and heavy. Imagine moving two
subwoofers that weigh 30-kgs each and four loudspeakers that weigh 100-kgs in total plus a few flight cases
that contain your power amplifiers, crossovers, equalizers, turntables, CD players etc. etc. It was a hard
job that requires atleast a manpower of four people. Thanks to Toyota, the future is very bright for mobile
disco operators.
Spotted in striking Yellow, the new Toyota Aygo by itself is a cool car. Totoya claims that, at 152 pounds,
the 1.0-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine is lightest engine of any car on the market today. Although it
produces 67 horsepower and 67 lb/ft of torque, Aygo sails very leisurely at 14.7 seconds to reach 60mph.
Nonetheless, the people at Toyota decides to take it a notch higher with the "COOL" factor. Just for the record, other
than being the smallest, Aygo·DJ is also the third generation of such vehicle, after Toyota Hiace - DJ Booth
Utility Van and Scion xB. The first thing about the Aygo·DJ that grab one's attention is the DJ console, which is located at the
rear end of the car. Unlike any other 5-doors mini cars, instead of having the hatch door opening upwards,
Toyota attaches two huge pnuematic cylinders that slide the hatch door outwards to reveal the DJ's workstation.
The set-up of the DJ console is basically catered for turntablist and hip-hop DJs. In between the two
vertically positioned turntables, sits a four channel mixer and hovering on top of them is
the control panel of a dual CD player. It would be better if the control panel was to be positioned in a
60° angle or more instead of pependicular to the mixer. The other equipments such as, equalizer, surround
compressor, CD transport can be found underneath the platform that holds the mixer and turntables.
Like the Scion Xb, the rear doors are speakers. The ingenious unison of a specially moulded
panel (which reminds me of Scandyna's Mini-Pods speakers) and the rear door gives an end result of a big speaker chasis
which holds four 6-inch drivers, handling the mid and high frequencies. The low frequencies are handled by
two 12-inch subwoofers - each sits inside of another specially moulded cabinet - both ideally located where
the rear seats were once were.
Together with four 4-inch satellite loudspeaker and eight tweeters, Aygo·DJ is able to unleash a
whopping 2800 watts of pure sound which more than sufficient to pump enough volume to fill a small venue with
pulsating beats.
Apart from sound, the Aygo·DJ is also equiped with the latest visual display system. With 3 LCD monitors
(one 7-inch Panasonic monitor on each side of the rear "loudspeaker" door and a massive 22-inch Panasonic
LCD monitor in the hatch door) which screens are facing outwards, the crowd standing around the Aygo·DJ are
able images that are being played on a DVD player or, courtesy of a Panasonic CCTV camera which is located on
the left hand corner of the DJ console, a close up view of the DJ.
Totally Pimped Out.
