AZULI presents MAIMI 2005

At the end of the winter season, in March, thousands of hedonist, punters and those in the know would congregate in Maimi for the annual Winter Music Conference (WMC). Now in its 20th year, the WMC is regard as the place that could make or break new dj’s or producers dreams and unveiling new sound of tomorrow’s hit.

Since the first release, "Azuli presents Miami ..." series never fails to impress. With club tunes such as Spiller's 'Groovejet', KOT's 'Finally', Xpress 2 and David Byrne’s 'Lazy' and Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero's 'Beats Vol.2', there is no denying that the compilations that emerge from it are full of fresh hot sounds. In its fifth partake, for the first time, along with the usual DJ mixed CD comes a "Limited Edition Digital DJ Unmixed 2 CD" set. The limited edition CD that is on review here contains full length versions of unreleased tracks and remixes. With the majority of DJs now playing CDs this makes it a must have for all digital DJs.

CD 1 represents Azuli Silver sounds. It starts with Mylo's (DJ Magazine’s Star of 2004) electro 'Destroy Rock & Roll' and ends with Rachel Star's 'Till There Was You' which was superbly remixed by John Creamer and Stephan K, the same duo that remixed Iio's 'Rapture' and Kosheen ' Hide U'. Filling between them are great house tracks such as Haji & Emanuel's 'Weekend' which appears on most top DJs playlist, Dylan Rhymes's 'Salty' and Lee Coombs's 'Shiver & Shake'. House music with quality melody and beats.

CD 2 takes you on Azuli's dark side. Aptly named, Azuli Black brings you the harder sounds with edge and attitude. Taking the pole position is TDR's 'Smoke Out', which is an excelent revamp of the Sabres Of Paradise classic 'Smokebelch'. Next up is Chab feat. J.D Davis's 'Closer To Me', a smooth vocal house track with retro like vocals of JD Davis. Moving on down the list, you'll find more deep and dark tunes like Roman Flugel's 'Geht's Noch?' and Tiefschwarz's 'Issst' but the real gem of CD 2, in my honest opinion, is Sander Kleinenberg's 'Fruit'. Already in the top 10 of the EDM charts, since My Lexicon, 'Fruit' is Kleinenberg's best product to date.

10/10. A must have for all House DJs.
